Derek + Kaitlin | St. Louis Wedding Photography

I am so excited to share this latest wedding with you all! When I say that we work with some of the most amazing couples (and yes I say that a lot!) I REALLY mean it! We feel so lucky to get the opportunity to work with some of St. Louis' finest people! What we love even more is when our previous awesome couples refer us out to their awesome friends...it's a double win! This is exactly  how we got hooked up with Kaitlin and Derek! When I look back over the years and think about all of the wonderful connections we've made with so many people it truly brings my heart so much joy. I can only hope that we are able to bring that same feeling of joy to all of our couples when they see their wedding memories frozen in time to cherish for a lifetime!

Kaitlin and Derek had a beautiful wedding day, despite the cold and rainy conditions (which didn't throw them off their game at all by the way!).  We started off our day with them at the gorgeous Hotel Ignacio in St. Louis and their ceremony and reception were held at Third Degree Glass Factory.  When you choose this beautiful venue for your wedding it comes with a private glass blowing demonstration during cocktail hour where they make the couple a keepsake from their wedding day! It was amazing to see a piece of art come to life right before our eyes! And as you will see below, these two did not skimp on the desserts! They had a whole spread of scrumptious and beautiful desserts from the one and only Blue Owl in Kimmswick, MO!  Every detail was beautiful and I am so excited to share this sneak peek with you!

Congratulations Kaitlin and Derek!

Adam + Sarah | St. Louis Wedding Photography

This Spring has been off to a rocky start...weather wise that is!  Winter and rainy weather have decided to extend their stay in the St. Louis area and it has been less than ideal for the beginning of wedding season.  Fortunately, we have AMAZING couples and they roll with it and we still get to create something beautiful for them.

Adam and Sarah tied the knot on a blustery day at the ever so beautiful Silver Oaks Chateau. Lucky for us, this venue has ample places both inside and out for photo opportunities and we took full advantage of that! Adam and Sarah were so wonderful to work with and were troopers when we asked them to endure the cold winds for photos.  It was a beautiful way to start our spring wedding season even if the skies were gray.

Congratulations to the new Mr. and Mrs.!

Mackenzie + Hal | St. Louis Engagement Session

I am so excited to be writing the very first blog post under our new SMB studios brand!  If this is your first time checking us out, WELCOME!  Thank you so much for stopping by and taking a look around.  Make sure to click on the "website" tab above to browse our new site.

Mackenzie and Hal had a beautiful Forest Park engagement session!  You would never know it from looking at this gorgeous couple but it was quite the chilly St. Louis morning this past Saturday during their session.  Despite that, the sun was shining and there was a beautiful couple in front of our lens for the first time in about a month so it was a good day in our books!

Mackenzie and Hal are originally from St. Louis but reside out of state so this was actually our first opportunity to meet them in person.  They were complete naturals in front of the camera!  I know their October wedding is going to be fantastic and we are super excited to be photographing them at one of the St. Louis areas newest venues, Piazza Messina, set to open up this summer! I really can't say it enough...we have one of the best jobs in the world!

Congratulations Mackenzie and Hal! We are so excited to be with you on your special day!

Celine + Ryan | Engagement Session

Crisp air, pumpkin spice lattes (yes I am that girl), and children napping (this hardly ever happens anymore!) has made this September day pretty glorious.  I know I'm not the only one totally over this extended summer we have been having.  I've been longing for the day that I can walk outside and not immediately want to retreat back into the air conditioning...today was that day! Days like today give me the extra dose of motivation I need to check things off of my to do list and feel a little extra spring in my step as I do it.  Today I worked on this beautiful engagement session with Celine and Ryan and I have to tell you that it only added to my already good day.  These two are adorable and were so great to work with. The light in Lafayette park was just gorgeous on Sunday night during their session and was the best compliment to their smiling faces.

So here's to Fall days filled with lots of love...and maybe a pumpkin spice latte or two!

Kelly + Zach | St. Louis Wedding Photography

Love.  It really does have a way of bringing people together.  You know that old saying that "love is blind"?  The saying is normally used in a negative way but the hopeless romantic in me thinks that the fact that "love is blind" is a good thing.  I absolutely love the picture that 1 Corinthians 13 paints of love (If you have ever been to a wedding, chances are pretty good that you've heard this scripture reading.) The last part of this popular wedding scripture says, "Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance. Love never fails". (NLT)  I think this is a beautiful picture of "blind love". Love that chooses to remain even in the tough times.  In the midst of adversity and pain...it's always there, chugging along, hoping and enduring through it all.  What a wonderful way to love! This is the love we hope for all of our couples to have for a lifetime!

This wonderful couple, Kelly and Zach, were married on August 12, 2017 when the rest of the world wasn't seeing a whole lot of love.  I'm so glad that I was witnessing and celebrating the love of two beautiful individuals on this day in history.  To me, their love story shines as a light in the darkness that is happening and is a testament of unity and diversity.  I am so, so glad that this is the memory I will have of that day.

Thank you Kelly and Zach for sharing your love story with us! Your wedding day was beautiful, as were both of you, and it was truly an honor to be there to capture it.

Clinton + Deborah | St. Louis Wedding Photography

I have been so excited to share Clinton and Deborah's photos with all of you! Their wedding day was filled with so many sweet moments and so, so much happiness! From the moment we came into the hotel room I could tell that it was going to be a great day! Deborah is a very big fan of The Wizard of Oz and when her and Clinton got engaged she knew that she wanted to incorporate that into their wedding day.  It was so fun to see all of the little touches Deborah incorporated throughout the day!  Their reception at the Forest Park Golf Course felt like you were in the Emerald City with green uplighting throughout and gold bricks adorning the guest tables. Deborah even wore her version of ruby red slippers! (TOMs for the win!) I left their wedding that night with a smile on my face thinking about how happy Clinton and Deborah were to be married and how much fun they had on their wedding day!  I don't think it will ever get old seeing two people in love join their lives together in marriage! It's the best job in the world!

Clinton and Deborah, Steven and I wish you all the best as you begin this new chapter in your lives.  Thank you for letting us share in this very special day!

Marcy + Christopher | St. Louis Engagement Photography

For those of you who have been around for a while and bear with me through my ramblings, you know that I have a special place in my photographer heart for engagement sessions. They are always a favorite of mine.  Lately, we have had the opportunity to do some engagement sessions in some non-traditional locations which has made them even more fun! When I first heard that Marcy and Christopher wanted to do their engagement session at the newly renovated Das Bevo (previously Bevo Mill) I was very excited! I couldn't wait to see the new life that was brought to this beautiful and historic building and I loved the fact that we would get the opportunity to play around with some different lighting techniques.  The whole experience did not disappoint! Marcy and Christopher were great and Das Bevo was beautiful and the staff more than accommodating! I'm so excited to share these photos with you and I hope you go check out the new Das Bevo for yourself!

Melissa + Chris | St. Louis Wedding Photography

We get the opportunity to see so many amazing and beautiful weddings in our line of work.  It is always so fun to see how each couple puts their individuality and personality into their wedding day.  When Melissa and Chris contacted us about shooting their Mother's Day, brunch wedding, I was so excited to photograph something a little more non traditional.  There were so many sweet and personal things about their wedding day that I think made it extra special for everyone who attended. Their wedding was at the always beautiful Silver Oaks Chateau and instead of starting off the festivities in the traditional ceremony first fashion, their guests were welcomed to join them for brunch first.  Their parents then shared some heartfelt words with them and then guests were free to mingle and play lawn games while Melissa and Chris got ready for the big moment.  Also, Melissa and Chris opted to collect donations to go towards two amazing charities in lieu of gifts.  Chris chose the St. Louis Crisis Nursery and Melissa chose the Tudor fund.  They even had some of the children from the St. Louis crisis nursery paint the clay pots that they used as their centerpiece decorations.  To top off the festivities, Melissa and Chris, had an area set up for all the kids in attendance to make mother's day cards as well as flowers for all of the moms in attendance.  It was such a lovely wedding day that felt so personal! It was an honor to photograph such a beautiful wedding day.

Thank you Melissa and Chris for sharing your special day with us!

Cortney + Cody | St. Louis Engagement Photography

I have such a soft spot for engagement sessions.  It might be my favorite part of our job!  We get the opportunity to work at a slower pace and be a bit more adventurous than we get to on a wedding day.  I always have so much fun getting to know our couples a little more and really seeing their relationship come to life in front of the camera.  Cortney and Cody were so much fun to photograph and when they said they were up for anything we really took advantage of that! It's not everyday that we climb a tower and get in a creek for our clients but when we do it is always worth it!  We are so excited to be photographing their upcoming October wedding!

Laura and Dmitry | St. Louis Wedding Photography

Where do I even begin with this lovely wedding??? Well, for starters I should tell you that I spent the two nights leading up to this wedding in the hospital with our youngest son after he had been sick for 3 weeks! That little stinker sure knows how to keep us on our toes and is always keeping our life exciting.  He was discharged from the hospital 1 hour before we were scheduled to be at Laura and Dmitry's wedding...nothing like cutting it close, son! Thankfully he is all better now and I am finally catching up on blogging some amazing May weddings!

Back to the amazingly beautiful wedding of Laura and Dmitry.  They were married at the always wonderful Silver Oaks Chateau.  You could tell that Laura put so much thought into every detail of her special day.  Her floral arrangements from Poppies Design Studio were from something out of a dream and made the already beautiful venue really come to life! It was such an honor to be a part of their big day and help them remember how special it was for years to come.  There is not much else I can say about this day that can't be said better with photos so without further ado...

Katie + Rodney | Wedding Photography

It has begun, friends! Our crazy marathon of weddings, that is! We started off this marathon with Katie and Rodney and will add another 8 to the list by mid-June! Phew! I get excited and worn out all at the same time when I think about it.  So many amazing weddings and memories will happen during these next 6 weeks and I'm so glad we will be there to capture them.

From the looks of the forecast last week, we were all a little nervous that Katie and Rodney's beautiful golf course wedding was going to be a total washout.  It definitely looked grim but we were prepared for the worst and going to make the best out of it.  Fortunately for us, the weather forecast is notoriously wrong and we had a completely rain free day for this beautiful wedding.  The sun even decided to pop out right as the ceremony started!  It was a beautiful day for a beautiful wedding! It was a great way to start off our busy season of weddings.

Katie and Rodney, thank you for letting us share in your big day! We wish you all the best that marriage can bring!

Laura + Dmitry | St. Louis Engagement Photography

You guys!! It is finally almost officially spring! This makes me excited because spring signifies the switch from our slower season into our busier season and let me just tell you...I AM READY! We have so many great weddings coming up over the next few months.  Be checking back often to see previews from all of our latest weddings and engagement sessions.

Speaking of engagement sessions, we had a great night last night to hang out in Forest Park with Laura and Dmitry.  The weather was perfect and the couple was adorable! There is not much more that my little photographer heart needs! Here is a peek at their session to brighten your mood and get you ready for spring!

Tanya + Ryan | St. Louis Engagement Photography

Is anyone else having trouble remembering that it is winter??  This unseasonably warm weather has me feeling like it's spring already...in FEBRUARY!! Tanya and Ryan were lucky enough to reap the benefits of this beautiful weather for their engagement session.  The sunlight was golden, the breeze was perfect, and the couple was lovely...that is about all we photographers need to make us feel giddy!  Plus, how great is Tanya's little black, sequin dress she wore? She really poured a lot of time into planning their session and she had some great, personal elements that were super fun to incorporate into our time together.

Cheers to you, Tanya and Ryan! We can't wait to photograph your wedding this year!

Kristy + James | St. Louis Wedding Photography

Hello 2017! (I'm just a little behind on this, I know!)  Our poor blog has been neglected over the last few months! If you don't already follow us on Facebook or Instagram you definitely should...they have been receiving a little bit more love these days than the blog has.

2017 has already been a great year for us with two amazing weddings under our belt with MANY more to come! This past weekend we had the pleasure of capturing photo and video (stay tuned to see their highlight video at a later date!) for Kristy and James' wedding.  Couples like Kristy and James are why I love this job so much.  They are just the sweetest and their love for one another is so strong and evident.  As I was setting up James for the "first look" with Kristy I asked him how he was feeling and if he was excited or nervous and he just said, "I'm so excited, I can't wait for her to be my wife forever!"  Heart = Melted!  It was so sweet and genuine.  It was such a beautiful day for a wedding (60 degree weather in February...yes please!!!) filled with lots and lots of love. You can't wish for anything more than that when you work as a wedding professional!

Kristy and James, we wish you both all of the best in the years to come! Congratulations on this new adventure!

My monkeys!

It is that time of year again...the time when Steven and I brave what is sure to be one of the most stressful days of our year.  PICTURE DAY!!!  Picture day for our kids, that is.  Don't get me wrong, I love having the photos of my kids but OH THE ORDEAL!! Let's just say there are plenty of "you get back here" and "stop doing that with your face" and "STAND STILL!!" 's going on with a healthy dose of bribing...okay, lots and lots of bribing! You would think that we would have all of these tricks up our sleeve since we photograph people for a living but when it comes to our own kids all bets are off!  I mostly just spend the whole time praying that we get one useable photo from all of the chaos. To be honest, most things with our boys are getting easier and we are really enjoying this new phase that we are moving into.  Our oldest is in Kindergarten, we officially only have one kid in diapers (WOOHOO!!!), and we are spending more time enjoying our kids as opposed to just making sure they don't die! However, picture day still haunts us...

I am happy to report that through all of the chaos and stress we did manage to get some adorable (okay, I know I'm a little biased) photos of our kids that we will cherish forever!  I, also, am totally in love with all of their little outfits that I got from none other than every mom's favorite store...TARGET!  My kids pretty much live in the Cat & Jack and Genuine Kids by OshKosh brands.  I fell in love with these shirts from the Genuine Kids brand.  I love that they are all nods to different fairy tales.  All of my other boy moms will relate when I say that it is HARD to find cute "themed" shirts for boys.  Most are superheros or trains or trucks of some sort.  I was pleasantly surprised when I saw that they made a line for boys that was themed and so adorable! (I promise I'm not being paid by Target or Oshkosh, I just really love these shirts!)  I'm hoping for more of the same in the future from them!

Okay, I think I have rambled on enough and I really am excited to share my 4 little monkeys with you! I mean, these 4 littles have my heart no matter how stressful it is to get good photos of them! And how can you not smile when you see the joy on my youngest boys face when it was raining leaves on him! All the heart eyes in the world wouldn't come close to how much we love these crazy, sweet, rambunctious, adorable little boys!

Bryan + Ashley | St. Louis Wedding Photography

Where do I even start with this wedding!  It is always amazing to be there to capture one of the most important days of someones life but it is even more special when those two people are people you love! This weekend I had the most amazing pleasure of photographing my brother in law and new sis in laws wedding! Our whole family of 6 was actually a part of the wedding! Steven had the privilege of standing beside his brother as his best man and all of our boys were ring bearers.  Despite some anxiety about our children possibly wrecking the whole wedding they did an amazing job and they were so excited to be a part of the wedding.

Now before I show you these beautiful images I have to talk a little bit about Bryan and Ashley.  Bryan was 11 years old when Steven and I started dating.  I have seen him grow into such a great young man with so many amazing qualities that I know will make him a great husband to Ashley.  I remember when I first met Ashley after her and Bryan started dating over 3 years ago.  I knew right away that she was special! She has such a sweet spirit.  There are so many adjectives I could use to describe her...selfless, beautiful, and caring are just a few. She is a perfect match for Bryan and a wonderful addition to our Butler clan.  I am so happy to officially call her my sister in law and for my kids to call her Aunt Ashley now! Her and Bryan are beautiful people on the inside and out and I want nothing but good things to follow them into this new chapter of their lives.

Congratulations Bryan and Ashley! We love you guys!  Enjoy this little sneak peek of your special day!

P.S. I promise my children had fun despite their miserable expressions during their big photo moment! *sigh*

Brooke + David | Illinois Wedding Photography

2016...what a year it has been so far!  We have had one beautiful wedding after another and photographed so many beautiful people and places.  This past weekend we got to go on a little adventure outside of Missouri to the beautiful little town of Cobden, IL for Brooke and David's wedding.

From our very first email exchange with Brooke, Steven and I knew that we were going to love working with her and David.  Not only are they high school sweethearts like we are, they are also die hard Parks and Rec fans as well! (Seriously, if you haven't watched this show, drop everything and watch it!)  They were so much fun to work with and their wedding could not have been more beautiful.  Brooke is also an AMAZING calligrapher (check out her work on instagram and Facebook @mochasandmountains).  She handmade some beautiful pieces for her wedding that were the perfect compliment to the already beautiful Historic Bell Hill bed and breakfast. Every detail was perfect! I'm so glad we were there to capture these moments for them!

Brooke and David, we are so excited for you guys to start this new chapter of your life! Congratulations and best wishes!

P.S. You're 5000 candles in the wind! ;)

Katie + Rodney | Forest Park Engagement Session

Don't you just love chilly fall days...It's cloudy outside, the wind is blowing, there is an ever so slight drizzle, you can wear layers of clothes without sweating profusely, and it's the perfect weather to stay at home and sip on a hot cup of coffee.  These are the days of fall that personally I LOVE! However, these are the exact kind of days that are not quite ideal professionally.  Let's be honest, nobody really pictures their engagement session with overcast skies (even though the photos would still be beautiful!!). We all love a good golden sunset, am I right?  Our goal is to always deliver images that our clients will love no matter what the weather conditions are. Rain or shine we are going to work our hardest to get you images that will make you feel only wonderful things when you look at them.

Yesterday, we were given these exact weather conditions for Katie and Rodney's engagement session.  These two were such troopers and braved the rain and wind with us.  All of the crappy weather was made worth it when the rain stopped and the night ended with the most beautiful sunset! I'm so in love with how their images turned out.  Thank you Katie and Rodney for being so awesome and braving the not so great weather with us! I think it was worth it!

Caitlin + Scott | Missouri Wedding Photography

O.M.G.

I've been thinking about where I can even start about this amazing wedding and O.M.G is the only thing I've come up with! There are so many great things about this wedding...from the beautiful Silver Oaks Chateau, to the Jimmy Choo shoes and Versace perfume, the amazing florals, the cigar bar, and the thoughtful thank you gifts for all in attendance.  Every detail was perfect!  Caitlin and her bridesmaids all looked absolutely gorgeous and the men were looking as dapper as ever.  Don't you just love the color palette that they chose?  I could go on and on all day about all the little things that made this wedding great but I'm just going to let you see for yourself!
